PPE For Those Who Need It
Underground N95 was started by two NYC physicians in the spring of 2020. During the early days of the covid-19 pandemic surge in their beloved city, Dr Cheryl Wu and Dr Nancy King realized many of their physician and other healthcare worker colleagues were going to work without adequate PPE, so they began an "underground" network of delivery system to get crucial donated PPE to frontline workers who were fighting this terrible disease.
In the fall of 2020, as schools in NYC prepared to reopen, Drs Wu and King (both also public school moms in downtown Manhattan) realized they needed to mobilize again to get PPE to teachers who may be medically vulnerable or live with loved ones who have medical conditions. So they reactivated the relationships they built in the spring time to ensure the safety of our latest group of essential workers: teachers and other education staff.

HOW WE CAN HELP
Working Together To Keep Everyone Safe
PROVIDING PPE
We want our teachers and staff to feel comfortable going to work. We have devised a PPE reuse system, based on medical literature, to ensure the sustainability of PPE supplies and maximize protection for our teachers as schools reopen in the city.
IDENTIFY THOSE AT RISK
We identify teachers who are at increased risk for covid contraction and complications, and we work together with the Covid Foundation to raise funds to purchase the necessary PPE for teachers and other DOE staff.
CLEANING SUPPLIES
We will also be assessing ongoing needs for cleaning supplies, especially at under-resourced schools. One of our goals is to provide the stop-gap measure for those schools who do not have the adequate resources to keep covid-19 at bay this fall and winter.

One of the top concerns on our minds is the disparity in equity in education (and healthcare) in our country. We have also partnered up with FREE (Families for Real Equity in Education), a grassroots parent organization in NYC who advocates for equity in education on all facets.
